Pokerstars: Step-by-step-guide

You can download the software and look around without actually register. You have to register however in order to play.

 I. Register yourself as a user

1. Go to ‘Account’ in the menu.
    Choose: Create Account…
2. Enter your information.
3. Poker Stars will send you an email with a code to the email account you specified.
4. You'll need to enter the code in the email in order to complete the registration.
Go to ‘Account’ in the menu.
    Choose: Validate Email Address…
5. You’re now a registered user!

When the registration is completed you’re awarded with $1000 of Play money (like monopoly money). These you can play on the tables called 'Play money'.
However, this is not recommended since the game could be as or more fictional as the money. It's not real money, hence many people are not consider the real risks etc. It's therefore recommended that you start with real money, but instead choose a table with small stakes.

 II. Buy chips

1. Go to ‘Lobby’ in the menu.
    Choose: Cashier…
Click on the black button ‘Buy chips’ in the bottom of the page.
2. Click on the finance institution you want to use.
When clicking on it you see what the minimum deposit is.
3. Click on the green button ‘Deposit’
4. Enter your payment details.
5. Click on the black button ‘Submit’.
6. You’ve got the cash. Now it's time to play!

If you become a regular player making a lot of money, it could be advisable to open a neteller account. However, for a person starting playing we recommend you to simply use a payment method you already have access to e.g. Visa.

 III. Choose a table

1. Choose what poker variety you want to play by clicking on its name.
We recommend you to start with the most common poker game – Hold’em!
(which is short for Texas Hold’em)
2. Choose if you want to play Fixed Limit or No Limit/Pot Limit by selecting that tab.
We recommend you to start with No Limit. This is since its more intuitive.
People are betting more and therefore it's clearer when it's better to call/bet/fold/check.
3. Find a table with an open seat. (If there’s no open seats, see below for info on waiting line.)
    Click on the chosen table.
A new window opens with the chosen table.
4. Click on an open seat.
A pop-up window appears asking you how much money you would like to bring
to the table. It also states min and max buy-in as well as giving you a proposal.
Enter the amount you want to play with.
We recommend you: To make it simple – simply choose as much money as they’re recommended.
(which is in general 10 times the big blind).
5. You’re now in the game!

6. If there’s no open seats, you can put yourself in the waiting line.
    Click on the chosen table.
A new window opens with the chosen table.
7. Click the black button ‘Join Waiting List’ which is situated in the lower right corner.
8. You’ll be called in as soon as there’s a seat available.

 IV. Tips and Hints

1. Check the box saying 'auto-post blinds'.
When it’s your turn, you have to bet the blinds.
By checking the box you’re just simply speeding up the game.
2. If you want to add money, just click on the pot on top, in the middle.
There you can also see your statistics etc.
3. We'd recommend you to decide upon a playing strategy before starting playing.
Otherwise there’s a tendency that your win and loss will be totally random.
4. If you want to sit out one hand you check the box saying 'Sit out next hand'.
Ideal for a quick toilet or coffee break.
5. Didn’t you understand who won and/or why?
Check the dealers explanation in the chat box in the lower left corner.
6. If you want to make notes on any player, then double click on the player's icon.
7. If you want to check on how much money you overall have got left, then go to the cashier.
At the cashier you can see how much cash you have, as well as buying more chips and paying out the money on your account.

 V. What you find in the table-window

- Each round circle around the table is representing a player. If there’s a seat open, it says ‘Seat Open’.
Also indicates the action of the player (e.g. call/bet/fold/check/muck).
- The pot is located on top, in the middle.
- The acrylic disc (marked with a ‘D’) indicates the dealer.
The next person has to post the small blind.
The next person again has to post the big blind.
- The chat box in the lower left corner states the actions of the game.
Here is clearly states who won and why! A very useful tool for a beginner.
